GREAT SATISFACTION FOR THE SAMMARINESE BEACH TENNIS TEAM IN THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A SOZOPOL (BULGARIA)

Great satisfaction for the Sammarinese Beach Tennis Team in the European Championships in A Sozopol (Bulgaria), which took place in September 2017. The white-blue delegation returns to the Republic with a historic medal, another touch and, above all, the awareness of being able to say its own in the continental context. A touching medal for the male pair formed by NicolÚ Bombini and Alvise Galli, who close with a prestigious fourth place. The two Titans have started their journey with a successful bet against Burkamin-Guryev, the 4th set of four (6-4 4-6 6-1); Bombini and Galli have had the best of the Spanish Rodriguez-Filella, who came back (1-6 6-4 6-3), earning access to the semifinals. Here they met the vice champions of the world and head of series 2 Cramarossa-Garavini (then winners of the European title), to whom they had to bend. Finally, in the bronze finale, they collided with the Spanish Ramos-Tejada. The first set was dominated by the Iberians who did not even leave a Sammarinesis game; in the second Galli and Bombini they found themselves and fought back and forth. Despite a very tricky fraction, the victory went to the Spaniards (0-6 6-7). For San Marino, however, a fourth place of absolute prestige.

The medal was won by Alessio Toccaceli and Nicola Molinari, deployed in the scoreboard Under 18, novelties of these Europeans. In the first encounter, the Sammarinese couple made little effort on Belgian De Backer-Sweerman (6-3 5-7 10-7); in the next round they showed all their character, liberating themselves with a net 6-1 6-1 of the young Russian couple Ivanov - Gaiday and guaranteeing a certain medal. The color determined the group three together with the blue pairs Attolino-Spoto and Zanon-Palmieri. The Titans have lost both matches, but the bronze they bring home is still historic, the first for San Marino in a Under-board.

In the women's tournament, only an unlucky draw, which has opposed the world champions (and then European champions), Bacchetta-Gasparri (6-2 6-3 for the blue) did not allow Alice Grandi and Marika Colonna to prove the their quality.

In the mixed tournament, both Sammarinese pairs stopped at the knockout stages: Galli-Colonna vs. the Russian champion Guryev-Nicoyan, and Bombini-Grandi against the French Guegano-Rousseau.
